S6 Monitoring transmission of NTDs
Sustainable approaches to monitoring (absence of) transmission, lessons to be learned from different NTDs and options for integration.

Almost 10 years after the London Declaration on NTDs of January 2012, great progress has been made and some NTDs have reached the (pre)elimination stage. Not only has incidence greatly decreased, but there have also been major advances in diagnostic and treatment options. Increasingly sophisticated diagnostic and surveillance tests are becoming available, including molecular tests and various methods of genotyping. Surveillance of NTDs is absolutely indispensable if we do not want to be confronted with resurgences, but as prevalence decreases sustainability becomes more of an issue. In this session we will discuss possible ways forward such as combined surveillance for multiple diseases. We will also discuss the potential role of novel methods such as sequencing.

This session will take place on Thursday 30th September 2021 from 11:00 – 13:30 BST / 06:00 – 08:30 ET
